Per Kirkeby, Arken, 12 Oct 2023 – 25 Feb 2024

Per Kirkeby’s show ‘BRICKS’ is on view at ARKEN from 12 October 2023 – 25 February 2024.

The show is dedicated solely to Per Kirkeby’s monumental brick sculptures, marking the 50th anniversary of the construction of his first large brick work in a public space in 1973, and features columns, walls, houses, benches, low-lying floor works and even a scenography (created by Per Kirkeby in 1992 for the performance of Iphigenia auf Tauris by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe).

As well as their commanding presence in the main axis, Kirkeby works can be found out in the museum grounds, where they are are in dialogue with the natural surroundings. Besides major known brick works, ARKEN also exhibits a number of Kirkeby’s unrealized works!

The 64 unrealised works that the artist conceptualised will be compiled for the first time in the forthcoming publication, ‘Per Kirkeby: The Complete Bricks, (Vol. 2), Unrealized Projects’.
