Biography & CV
Olav Christopher Jenssen (b. 1954 in Sortland, Norway) lives and works between Berlin, Germany and Lya, Sweden. Jenssen studied at the National Arts and Crafts School in Oslo (1976-79) and at the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, Norway (1980-81). He was a Professor at Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Hamburg (1996-2006) and a professor at Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Braunschweig (2007-2023).
Recent major solo exhibitions include Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo, Norway (2019); Sprengel Museum, Hannover, Germany (2019); Kunstmuseum Saarbrücken, Saarbrücken, Germany (2016); Kunstmuseum MARTA Herford, Herford, Germany (2013); Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland (2010); Kunstmuseum Brandts, Odense, Denmark (2009) and Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn, Germany (2003). Jenssen participated in documenta 9 in 1992.
The artist is represented in several prominent public collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK) in Denmark; Kiasma in Finland, Musée national d’Art moderne Centre Pompidou in France; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Kunstmuseum Bonn, MARTA-Herford, Neue Galerie Kassel, Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Saarbrücken Museum in Germany; Astrup Fearnley Museum, Norway North-Norwegian Museum and The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Norway; Malmö Konstmuseum and Moderna Museet in Sweden and MoMA in the USA.
