Biography & CV

Nina Nowak (b. 1984, Poznan, Poland) lives and works between Germany and Copenhagen, Denmark. Nowak holds an MFA from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and she also studied at the Royal Institute of Fine Art in Stockholm. Currently the artist holds a research scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, Germany. Furthermore, she is an alumnus of the Jan Van Eyck Academy and has been awarded the prize for Abstract Sculpture of Diakonie Michaelsvhoven, Cologne, Germany (2022). In 2018, Nowak was awarded a one-year grant program by Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn (Cultural Foundation of Germany) and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North-Rhine Westphalia supported her work with an individual working grant in 2017.

 

Nowak’s work has been exhibited at Korean Cultural Centre, London, UK (2022) Arken Museum of Modern Art, Ishøj, Denmark (2022); Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Germany (2019) and Horsens Kunstmuseum, Horsens, Denmark (2018). Horsens Kunstmuseum holds four of Nowak’s works in their permanent collection.

Nina Nowak work acquired by Horsens Art Museum

The gallery is very pleased to announce that Horsens Art Museum has recently added an artwork by artist Nina Nowak to their collection. The sculpture And Now, Up in the Air! We congratulate gallery artist Nina Nowak, who is currently participating with a new video work at Copenhagen Contemporary, in the show titled Yet, it Moves!. Bringing together works by Danish and international artists, the exhibition is poised at the intersection of art and science, with a central theme of motion as an omnipresent phenomenon. Be sure to swing by Reffen in order to enjoy the immersive universe of Nowak's work, one that has been in the process of becoming for several years, since her inaugural solo show at the gallery titled A Timeline Starting on the Surface (2021). The gallery congratulates Nina Nowak, whose work titled Folded and hung up to Dry (2018) has been acquired by Horsens Art Museum, Horsens, Denmark. Congratulations to gallery artist Nina Nowak (PL/DE) who features in the current group exhibition Begin Again: KCC x Germany at the Korean Cultural Centre UK, London. The participating artists and finalists of the 2022 KCC UK and Germany Open creatively reflect upon the notion of transformation and re-imagination. The exhibition is an attempt to look for change in uncertainty, and through constant questioning find innovation in what may seem to be chaos. The exhibition runs until 4 February. Nina Nowak in conversation with Lars Bang Larsen, Arken Museum of Modern Art

Nina Nowak (DE/PL), who participated in the 2022 summer exhibition Grundstof at Arken, was in conversation with Lars Bang Larsen, curator and director of Art Hub Copenhagen, on 21 September, 2022 at Arken, Ishøj. The conversation explored subjects such as circadian rhythm and tides, the use/misuse of technology in art, and how to work with both dead and living materials.
