Biography & CV
Marijke van Warmerdam (b. 1959, Nieuwer Amstel, The Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Van Warmerdam studied at the Rijksakademie van Beelende Kunsten, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; PS1 in New York, USA as well as on a DAAD Stipendium in Berlin, Germany. Recently she was an artist in residence at Royal Netherlands Institue in Rome (2017). Van Warmerdam has been Professor of Art at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe since 2004 and Advisor at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam since 2000.
Major solo exhibitions include Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd/Centraal Museum Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands (2022), Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf, Germany (2014); the Boijmans van Beumingen Museum, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, (2011); Magasin 3, Stockholm, Sweden (2011) Horsens Kunstmuseum, Horsens, Denmark (2007), MAC, Marseille, France (2006), Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, Norway (2005), Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich, Switzerland (1997) and the VanAbbe Museum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands (1997). Mariijke van Warmerdam has participated in numerous international exhibitions including the Sydney, Berlin, Kwangju and Venice Biennials, as well as documenta 10.
The artist is represented in several prominent public collections worldwide, notably MUHKA and Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Belgium; Musée national d’Art moderne George Pompidou and Pinault Collection in France; MUDAM in Luxembourg and the Stedeljik Museum in the Netherlands.
