Biography & CV
Jean-Marc Bustamante (b. 1952 in Toulouse, France) lives and works in Paris, France. Bustamante studied economics and photography and worked briefly in film. He taught sculpture at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1990-1995), at the Kunstakademie in Munich, Germany (2009-2015) and was director of the École nationale supérieure des beaux arts in Paris, France (2015-2019.)
Major solo exhibitions include Villa Medici, Rome, Italy (2012); Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, UK (2011); Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama, Japan (2002) and Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, Paris, France (1990). Bustamante represented France at the Venice Biennale in 2003, participated in the São Paolo Biennale in 1994 and in documenta 8 (1987), 9 (1992) and 10 (1997).
The artist is represented in the public collections of mumok in Austria; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark; Musée national d’Art moderne Centre Pompidou and Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris in France; Museo Reina Sofia in Spain; and the MET in the USA.
