Biography & CV

Fredrik Tydén (b. 1985, Copenhagen, Denmark) lives and works in Vordingborg, Denmark. Tydén received his MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 and he also studied at the école de recherche graphique – école supérieure des arts in Brussels, Belgium (2013-14). He was awarded Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s Grant’s Talent Prize in 2020 and The Remmen Foundation Art Prize in 2017.

 

Site specific works include Antvorskov Kaserne, Slagelse, Denmark (forthcoming); Forum Park, Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus, Denmark (2022), Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Herlev Hospital, Herlev, Denmark (2021) and Skovsnogen Artspace, Kibæk, Denmark (2015).

 

The artist is represented in the public collection of the Danish Arts Foundation in Denmark.

Fredrik Tydén: Finalist in Competition for the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway.

We are proud to announce that a jury has selected three finalists, including gallery artist Fredrik Tydén, to further develop their design proposals for the new doors of the historic Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway. Tydéns proposal is based on the myth of the Fall. The work consists of wrought iron ornamentation on the outside and decorative carved oak inside the doors. "As a kind of background music for the whole work with the doors, it has been important for me to create a work that is both solemn, warm, and friendly, without being naive. The work is carried by simple signs, with very meaningful theological concepts behind them, which are easy to read. I have also emphasised that the doors do not appear as a barrier between the Cathedral and its surroundings but as an experience in itself. With an inviting visual and tactile surface, the hope is that the doors, even if the Cathedral should be closed, are in exchange with its surroundings and guests". The final winner will be announced on January 6th 2025.

Galleri Susanne Ottesen is pleased to announce the inauguration of Fredrik Tydén's permanent installation at the newly opened Forum Building and Park at Aarhus University Hospital. The ribbon was cut and the works unveiled on Wednesday 7 September, 2022. Tydén's installation comprises of five bronze sculptures that can be enjoyed out in the park. Photo: the artist.

Galleri Susanne Ottesen congratulates Danish sculptor Fredrik Tydén on his latest public comission. The artist has just been selected to make a site-specific permanent installation for the arrival zone at Antvorskov Kaserne, Slagelse, Denmark. Galleri Susanne Ottesen is pleased to announce represention of Fredrik Tydén. Fredrik Tydén (b. 1985, Copenhagen, Denmark) currently lives and works in Vordingborg, Denmark. He recieved his MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark (2008-2015) and has also studied at École de Recherche Graphique – École de Supérieure des Arts, Brussels, Belgium (2013-2015). Amongst other exhibitions in Denmark and abroad, Tydén has previously exhibited at Galleri Susanne Ottesen as part of two group exhibitions Good fortune, no blame (2016) and Out of Use: Interior (2015).
