Biography & CV
Emil Westman Hertz (1978-2016) was born in Gudhjem, Bornholm, Denmark. Hertz lived and worked in Gudhjem and Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied Eskimology at the University of Copenhagen (1999-2000) and received his MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2008).
Solo exhibitions include Bornholms Kunstmuseum, Gudhjem (2016); Holstebro Kunstmuseum, Holstebro (2013); Horsens Kunstmuseum, Horsens (2014) and Heerup Museum, Rødovre (2007) in Denmark. Among awards Hertz received Horsens Kunstmuseums Venners Kunstnerpris (Horsens’s Art museum’s Friends’ Art Prize) in 2014, the Niels Wessel Bagge’s Art Grant in 2013 as well as the Danish Art Foundation’s 3 Year Work Grant in 2012.
The artist is represented in several prominent public collections, including Bonholms Kunstmuseum, the Danish Art Foundation, Holstebro Kunstmuseum, and the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK) in Denmark and Magasin III in Sweden.
